In South Carolina this past week, members of the "Occupy Charleston" tried to inturupt a speech being made by Presidential hopeful Bachmann. Instead they got shouted down by supporters of Bachmann chanting USA and SIT DOWN. While the protesters had a whole speech rehearsed you could barley hear over the people who had attended the speech to actually hear the speech. While Bachmann did leave the stage for a short while, when she returned after the protesters left she said " Don't you love the First Amendment?"
I find this funny as the protesters thought that they would be able to stop her from speaking, but instead was out shouted and forced to leave. I think that this proves that the protesters around the nation are starting to push their luck and are getting on peoples nerves. While this was a demonstration of the use of the first amendment I find that this act was just plain rude and was made in bad character. If you want to make a point, speak your mind in a civilized fashion, not by using numbers and the "mob mentality." You are just making yourself look bad, and causing negative effects for your cause. This is another think before you act type of offense.
I react because I think that the people who are "occupying" places are using the first amendment to hid behind while they just riot. While thankfully things have not become that violent, I think that the way things are going citizens may start getting angry and take vigilantly stances. I also do not understand at all how this quote protest made any sense at all. Read the article, watch the video, and read what the protesters are yelling. Tell me what you think.
As always this is just my opinion.
